Laptop CD/DVD RW Repair

A laptop that includes a DVD-RW drive can give you the option of watching, burning or ripping information from a CD or DVD disc. However, hardware errors can occur with your DVD-RW drive over time.

Most Common Problems:

LENS :
Your DVD-RW drive is capable of reading and writing DVD and CD discs by using a small laser lens. Dust and debris can cause an obstruction of the laser. This problem can be fixed with the purchase of a lens cleaning disc.

CONNECTION :
The DVD-RW drive on your laptop is incorporated and soldered onto your motherboard. If your DVD-RW drive is not responsive, this could be a connection error. The data and power connection can be damaged or disconnected and can only be repaired by opening your laptop. Once opened, locate the DVD-RW drive and inspect to see if any attached wires are loose or detached

TRAY :
The tray on your DVD-RW drive holds the actual disc in place when the laser operates. The tray has a set of small rails it slides across. If your tray is off course or simply broken, it can only be repaired by opening the shell of your laptop.

MOTOR :
Your DVD-RW drive has a motor that pushes and pulls your tray. If powers is being directed to your DVD-RW drive but the motor is not operating running, this can mean a faulty motor. Your motor can only be repaired by opening the laptop.
